I.                   Greetings

Ask the following questions:

What day is it today?                 What is the date today?

What day was it yesterday?            What was the date yesterday?

What day is it tomorrow?              What is the date tomorrow?

II.                The brainstorming

T: Next let’s have a brainstorming. That is, answer the questions as quickly as possible. If you know the answer, just stand up and speak out the answers. Are you ready? Let’s go!

1.       Which is the first month of the year?  -- January.

2.       Which is the third month of the year?  -- March.

3.       Which is the ninth month of the year?  -- September.

4.       Which is the last month of the year?   -- December.

5.       Which month comes before June?     -- May.

6.       Which month comes before March?   -- February.

7.       Which month comes after July?      -- August.

8.       Which season comes after autumn?   -- Winter.

9.       How many seasons are there in a year? What are they? 

-- Four. They are spring, summer, autumn and winter.

T: Let’s watch a video about the four seasons. You can read after the video. (Show the video about the four seasons.)

III.             Presentation of winter

1.       --How many seasons are there in a year? What are they?

--When is spring?   -- It’s from March to May.

--When is summer?  – It’s from June to August.

--When is autumn?  – It’s from September to November.

--When is winter?   – It’s from December to February.

--What season is it now? –It’s winter.

-- How to spell winter?  (write the words on the blackboard, using a piece of blue chalk.)

2. –What’s the weather like in winter?   --It’s very cold.

  -- In the northeast, what’s the weather like in winter? Right, it usually snows. Sometimes it snows very heavily.

--Do you like the snow?

-- When it snows, what can we do?  --We can make snowmen, skate, ski, or throw snowballs.

3. Make a conclusion and show the pictures.

In winter the weather is very cold. It is the coldest season of the year. Sometimes it snows, sometimes quite heavily. In winter, people can make snowmen and so on.

IV.              Presentation of spring

1.       – Do you know Bacon? There is a very famous saying, “if winter comes, is spring far behind?” So after winter, which season is coming?

-- How to spell “spring”? (write the word using green chalk)

2.       Let’s see a video together. Watch carefully. After that, please tell us what you can see in the video. Here we go!

(The students watch the video. Afterwards, talk something about what is spring in the video.)

3.       What’s the weather like in spring? (Show the video.)  Right. The weather in spring gets warmer. Everything begins to grow. Look at the trees. Trees turn green. Look at the flowers. They start to come out. Spring is a beautiful season. Spring is the best season of the year.

4.       In spring, what can we do? (Students will say a lot of things that we can do in spring.)

Here are some of the things we can do in spring. Plant trees, pick tea, grow crops and go on a field trip.

V.                 Presentation of summer

1.       – After spring, which season is it?

-- How to spell “summer”? (write on the blackboard using red chalk)

2. – What’s the weather like in summer?  --It’s very hot.

  --It’s the hottest season of the year. (Show the picture of summer.) What’s the weather like in the picture? It’s raining heavily. Do you like the rain?

  -- No.

  -- We don’t like the rain. But the farmers like the rain very much. Do you know why? That’s right. In summer the crops grow very quickly in summer. The farmers are very happy!

  -- What can we do in summer?

  -- We can go swimming.

  -- Where do you usually go swimming?

 -- In the river. / In the swimming pool.

  -- What else can we eat in summer?

  --Ice cream. / Watermelon.

3. Make a conclusion about the summer

  In summer, it’s very hot. It’s the hottest/ warmest season of the year. It sometimes rains quite heavily. People can go swimming and eat ice cream and watermelon in summer.

VI.              Presentation of autumn/fall

1. --What’s the last season? –It’s autumn. We can also say “fall”.

  -- How to spell? (write on the blackboard using yellow chalk.)

2. Look at the picture. What can you see in the picture?

  What color are the leaves?

  Well, the leaves turn yellow and fall down.

  What’s the weather like in autumn? It’s very cool.

  What can people do in autumn? People, especially the farmers, are busy with the harvest.

Because autumn is the harvest time. It’s a busy season.

VII.           Fill in the form and read.

1.       Do you want to know more about the four seasons? There’s a letter. It’s from Wang Wei to Helen. In the letter, Wang Wei talks about the four seasons. I’ve given you a piece of paper. What we are going to do is: listen to the tape and fill in this form. After each season, I’d like you to tell us the season, the weather, the description of this season. Let’s begin.

3.       Read the letter together.

4.       1). The weather gets warmer, and the days get shorter in spring.

4). Autumn is harvest time. Last month we helped farmers with the rice harvest.

5). The writer can’t make snowmen because it doesn’t snow here.

VIII.        Make a survey

1.       --Up to now, we have talked a lot about the four seasons. But, excuse me, …. What’s your favourite season? Why? (ask four students)

-- Can you ask me the questions? (show the answers in the screen)

2.       Do you want to know what your classmates or the teachers’ favourite season is? Go around the classroom and ask them. (about 3 minutes)

3.       Report: ask seven students to report. Each student reports one person.

IX.              Let’s have a debate

1.       Different people likes different seasons. Whose favourite season is spring/ summer/ autumn/ winter? Please hands up!

2.       Divide the whole class into four groups. The ones who like spring sit in Group 1. The ones who like summer sit in Group 2. The ones who like autumn sit in Group 3. The ones who like winter sit in Group 4. Let’s move in 30 seconds. ( Teacher counts the numbers.)

3.       Now, let’s have a debate -- Which is the best season of the year? If you tell the reason, your group will get one mark. But the rest students should keep quiet. If you talk, your group will lose one mark.

4.       Debate.

5.       Conclusion: well, it’s hard to say which season is the best season. What we know is because of the four seasons, our world becomes very beautiful.

6.       At last, let’s choose who is the best debater! Let’s ask the teachers for help. If you think he or she is the best debater, please give him or her a sticker on the face, clothes, hands and so on. Thanks very much.
